I was pulled over for speeding, and I as took my real ID out of my wallet, the officer saw my fake ID underneath (stupid, I know.)

It was a very poorly made ID printed off of someone’s computer and laminated, but the officer ran the DL# and said that the number was valid (obviously the information ont he fake did not match the real information, as I had no idea the DL# was even valid) and that because of the valid DL#, it was identity theft/fraud. He wrote down my phone number and said an officer would call me or something.

I received two tickets… one for speeding, and one for possesion of a false/altered ID. An appearance in court is NOT required, though I must pay a $232 fine…

My question is… Is the $232 fine the end of it? Or is the ‘identity theft’ that the officer mentioned something completely different than the ticket I received for possession of a false ID?

Any insight would be appreciated, I can hardly stand waiting for this officer who is supposed to call…
Sorry I didn’t post how long it’s been…

It was about 5 hours ago. I know that’s not a long time at all, but I tend to worry over things.

Also, I am 18 years old, and the ID read 21, and yes… the officer did take the ID.

Thanks for the responses so far!

Tobi

My daughter lost her wallet, with her: drivers license, bank (debit) card and bank account number, Social Security Card, a credit card, and a check from a friend.

I recently had my wallet stolen. Since, I have been job hunting I had my Social Security Card with me as well as my drivers license. To me that says sometime next week or sometime two years from now, I could be in serious trouble of identity theft.
I know myself well enough to realize that while I may remember to check one a regular basis for the next few months, I’ll eventually relax my guard.
Is there a company that I can hire to watch this for me? It seems like there would be a growing industry for this sort of company. Pay someone an annual fee and they call you if something suspicious shows up…

We are moving and my car was broken into. They stole my wallet, which had my sons’ social security cards, and my old one with my maiden name and my new one. They also ended up with my routing and account number, but I closed the account. They had my ID too, but that was mailed back to me from across the state. I am afraid they will open accounts in my sons’ names, since they have all the information needed. How do I file a identity theft/fraud alert for free?
