I have recently done a background check on myself and have found an unknown name and address associated with my social security number.

What does this mean and what should I do? I assume it means that someone tried to use my social security number and their address to receive credit cards. But where do I go from here?

I pulled my credit report through a company called Identity Guard and in it it contains background information and according to that I was arrested and charged for drug posession a felony in the state of Arkansas I have never even been to Arkansas and that definately was not me I live in Ohio. I dont know what to do to find out if this is a mistake on the part of Identity Guard or if someone has stolen my Identity. I called Identity Guard but am just getting the run around from them and my local police department will not help me until I can prove this is really listed under my social. I am going for a great job interview on Saturday and am afraid I wont even be called back If this does show up on my background check. Arkansas is not a public information state and they want you to pay for everything. I dont know where to begin Please Help

A coworker’s SSN was stolen and used by an illegal immigrant. She contacted the the police and ICE but they stated they will only be able to issue a ticket to the person who stole and not much else. Is this true? She is still going through the process of checking to see how much damage was done and trying to get a lawyer. Is there anything else she can do?
We don’t have a name. It started when she checked her credit report and there were accounts that didn’t belong to her. She checked some other stuff-background check and etc.- and thought she could press charges. When she reported it to the police and they looked into it, they stated it was an illegal immigrant, could not give the name of the person at this time and she didn’t have to many options other then reporting it and issuing a ticket.
Dglez - This isn’t her fault and she is very careful.
