I have had my credit card # stolen in the past and have never had a problem with having the charges forgiven. This is $40 extra a year on my premium. Does anyone see any meaningful value with identify theft protection?

Ok. Here is the situation. My husband and I have had full custody of my now 17 yo. stepdaughter for several years and everything has been great. About a month ago she recieved a utitlity bill in her name from a collection agency for services rendered in another state by her biological mother. I have contacted the utility company and the collection agency to let them know she in a minor and had never resided outside of our home state. They both told me there is nothing they can do. We filed a police report and the mother is being prosecuted for Identity theft and fraud for this insident.
My main issue is that I cannot obtain a credit report from any of the three main credit reporting agencies for my stepdaughter because she is a minor but we are very concerned that this is not the first time her identity has been used and this will cause a major issue when she applied for college loans next year.
Does anyone know how to get a credit report for a minor?

My husband is convinced that we need to get this. It costs $110 per person per year, and from what I gather, all they do is contact Experian, Transunion and Equifax and tell them that you suspect you might be at risk for identity theft. They provide these companies with 2 phone numbers provided by you. Then if something happens your identity gets stolen, it’s your responsibility to call Lifelock tell them. If you don’t, they won’t go to bat for you. If you do everything they tell you to do, they will pay for the legal fees to get your credit straightened out, up to $1,000,000, but they don’t reimburse any lost money.

Is my understanding correct? If not, what am I missing?

Wouldn’t it be better to contact the 3 credit companies and put a security freeze on our credit? Yes, it’s a hassle if we actually want credit, but then no one can get credit in our name, period. No hassles with laywers and ID theft insurance, because no one can get through to the credit companies.

We have been working on how to solve the problem on identity theft. We came up with the idea of using a USB(universal serial bus) memory drive to store information. It would be safer from hackers because it would have a thumbprint scanner, encrypted data, and up to a 14 digit pasword. We were wondering if anyone had any Input on this Idea.

I have recently learned that I have been a victim of identity fraud/theft. What can I do to minimize the damages to my credit?

Third party means someone other than IRS or a well known tax prep site, like HR Block. Sometimes there’s a savings from using a third party tax prep and efile.

My Yahoo ID & Password was used without my knowledge and the person using it has destroyed a relationship I had by personating both me and my friend.

This person was sending emails to my friend (like they were from me) and this person also made a fictitious AOL email using my friend’s name (making it look like the emails were from my friend) and sending them to me.

How do you prove who really sent the emails?

I have changed my password on Yahoo but I’m really not safe because anyone can take your name and create a new account making it look like the emails are from you and they can email anyone and create a lot of hardship and stress in having to go back and prove that you really didn’t send the emails.

How do you prevent this from happening???

Can you get a record from Yahoo showing where the emails came from?

How do you go into your recycle been for Yahoo and retrieve old email or can you?

Not that I’m not enjoying college again to stay out of the way but enough is enough! In the old days you would just shoot them!
